Captain Charles and Mary Beth Brown
Solomons, Maryland 20688
Captain Charles and Mary Beth offer crabbing demonstrations and kayak tours on the lower Patuxent River in Solomons, Maryland. The tour is primarily water-based, beginning with a crabbing demonstration by Captain Charlie, followed by a private tour of an oyster seeding facility at Jefferson Patterson Park. The next phase of the tour includes a 1 1/2 hour guided kayak trip up St. Leonard's Creek, visiting an important battle site from the War of 1812. Lunch is at a well-known restaurant on St. Leonard's Creek (price of lunch not included in the tour).
Our tours are primarily seasonal, beginning on or about May 15th and ending on or about October 15th. Tours may be customized to fit clients' needs. (i.e. longer kayaking session if customer is interested, to include visiting a wildlife area on St. Leonard's Creek where American bald eagles nest or adding a stop at the War of 1812 museum at Jeff Patterson Park). Tours are mostly adult appropriate, but can be customized to accommodate younger clients.
Captain Charlie has lived and worked on the water most of his life, and is an experienced commercial fisherman and crabber. He is a member of the Calvert County Watermen's Association. Mary Beth Brown is an enthusiastic kayaker and retired Calvert County French teacher. Tours are available in French at the client's request.
